Each year the EDGD recognizes outstanding professional contributions to the field with the following awards:
The Distinguished Service Award
Established in 1950, this is the Division’s most prestigious award, expressing the deep appreciation of the EDGD. It recognizes long-term service to the Division and the profession through a certificate and citation.
The Oppenheimer Award
A monetary award is made each year for the best paper presentation at the mid-year conference. This award recognizes the craft of communicating using both oral and graphical skills and is made to stimulate and promote excellence in technical presentations.
The Rising Educator Award
The EDGD Rising Educator Award is presented to educators for demonstrating potential for substantial contributions to the field through engineering design graphics education research and/or scholarship.
The Chair’s Award
The Chair’s Award recognizes the outstanding paper presented at an EDGD sponsored ASEE Annual Conference session and carries a cash award.
The Editor’s Award
The Editor’s Award recognizes the outstanding paper published within a volume of the Engineering Design Graphics Journal and carries a cash award.
The Payne Award
The Payne Award recognizes the outstanding contributions to the Engineering Design Graphics Division by an individual representing industry.
The Media Showcase Award
A framed citation and monetary award is made for best media presentation at the mid-year conference. This award recognizes the author’s ability to expand beyond traditional presentation methods and interact with the audience one on one. In this format authors may set up a computer display that allows for interactivity or on-screen displays (slide shows) and display physical props or models that are not as effective in a larger group.
The EDGD Participation Grant
The EDGD Participation Grant is intended as a developmental program to encourage potential and new graphics instructors to participate in the activities of the Engineering Design Graphics Division (EDGD) of ASEE. It is also anticipated that the grant recipients will make the EDGD one of their professional affiliations and activities on an ongoing basis throughout their professional career.
The Cengage Grant
The Cengage Grant (CG) is intended as a developmental program to encourage graphics instructors from Junior Colleges, Community Colleges and Technical schools to participate in the activities of the Engineering Design Graphics Division (EDGD) of ASEE. It is also anticipated that the grant recipients will make the EDGD one of their professional affiliations and activities on an ongoing basis throughout their professional career.
